No Commander player stops at one deck. There is the pet deck you have been tuning for years, the laid-back deck for casual nights, the brew of the month, and that tribal idea waiting patiently in a binder. The collection grows, and with it comes a very practical question: how do you store all of this?

The modular school: the Proteus

One box, a thousand faces

The Proteus flips the problem around. Every face of the box is an interchangeable magnetic panel, held by N52 neodymium magnets built into the structure. Add the sculpted 3D medallions that attach to the front face, and your box changes its look in seconds, no tools required. Dragon deck tonight? Scale-engraved panel and dragon medallion. Pirate deck tomorrow? Old-map panel and ship medallion. One base, and panels for each deck.

The library of panels and medallions keeps growing, and you can even have a custom visual made. Panels are meant to be collected, combined and swapped from one setup to the next.

The limit: one box carries one deck

Here too, let us be honest: the Proteus changes its face, not its contents. It holds 125 double-sleeved cards, which means one Commander deck at a time. Switching decks means switching the cards inside. If you bring three decks to every game night, a single Proteus will not be enough.

How to decide

The right choice comes down to how you play. If you show up every week with several decks under your arm to vary the games, the classic school wins: one box per deck, each one recognizable, each one ready to play. If you play in phases, one deck you pilot intensely for a month before moving to the next, the Proteus was made for you: a single premium box, with a panel that follows your deck of the moment.

Budget plays a role too. With the Proteus, a single base serves all your decks and only the panels add up over time, while the classic school means the number of boxes grows with the number of decks. On the other hand, if every deck is a finished project that deserves its own permanent home, nothing replaces a dedicated box.

The best of both worlds

Many players combine both approaches: dedicated boxes for the two or three flagship decks that come out every game night, plus a Proteus for the rotating brews.
