You just clicked "Order" in the Forge. Your deck box exists on screen, exactly as you composed it in the live preview, color by color. But in the workshop, nothing exists yet: at DeckSmith, no box sits on a shelf waiting for a buyer. Every piece is made to order, for you, in our workshop in France. Here is what really happens between your click and your letterbox.
Day zero: your configuration becomes a work order
Everything starts in the Forge, our online configurator. A theme picked from the gallery or built from a blank canvas, a box color, paint colors, sculpted reliefs, an optional lid engraving, your own artwork on the side panels or as a medallion: every choice you confirm on screen becomes a precise instruction for the workshop. That is what separates a custom deck box from a mass-produced one: your order is not a reference pulled from stock, it is a piece that will exist exactly once.
Printing: the material takes shape
The first physical step is 3D printing. Your box is printed in premium PLA at a 0.2 mm layer height, the optimal height for this kind of piece: reliefs come out crisp, surfaces are even, and the details you configured in the Forge exist in the material itself, not just in the paint.
This is also where the snap-fit closure comes to life. No magnet on the closure, no added mechanism: the lid and the body are designed to fit precisely into each other, and that fit is decided right at the printing stage.
Finishing: hands, craft, and time
Once printed, your box moves into the hands of the workshop, and this is where your choice of finish takes over.
With Inksmith, the box is entirely hand painted: acrylic paint, reliefs and engravings brought out by drybrushing, highlights worked one by one, then a non-toxic varnish. This is the step that makes no two DeckSmith boxes strictly identical: the artisan's hand leaves its signature in every patina.
With Ironsmith, the color is printed directly into the material on our high-end printers: vivid, deep colors, sharp contrasts, artworks impossible to achieve by hand. Print time is longer, and this premium finish can add a few days to production.
All in all, production usually takes less than 10 business days, premium finishes aside. That is not a logistics queue: it is the actual time it takes to make your piece.
The photo before shipping: our commitment
Before being packed, every box goes through one last ritual: the photo. We photograph every finished piece before it ships, and that photo is not decorative. If the box you receive does not match the configurator preview, it is repainted or remade at our expense. It is how we keep the Forge's promise: what you composed on screen is what you hold in your hands.

On its way: tracked delivery, worldwide
Your box then leaves France, always with a tracking number. As a guide, allow 2 to 5 days for mainland France, 5 to 10 days for Europe, and 10 to 20 days for the rest of the world. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your destination, and you can follow the parcel all the way to your door.
One tip when it arrives: take your time inspecting your piece. If anything is wrong, just let us know within 14 days with a few photos and the warranty applies.
